Introduction
In this article, we will describe how to set up OptiTrack to be used as a camera tracking system in Aximmetry.
For OptiTrack hardware setup and troubleshooting, please refer to the official OptiTrack documentation.
Preparation
First of all, you need to download and install OptiTrack's Motive application. Make sure to run it before launching Aximmetry, because Aximmetry gets the tracking data through it.
The set of trackers you have mounted on the camera has to be added as a rigid body in Motive.
You also have to set up Motive to stream the tracking data.
In Aximmetry
Single Machine
If Motive is running on the same PC as Aximmetry:
In the Startup Configuration window, switch to the Camera Tracking tab under Available Input Devices. All OptiTrack rigid bodies should appear within 1–2 seconds.
Then, drag and drop the OptiTrack device(s) onto an occupied slot under Video Inputs (Mapped Devices):
Additionally, whenever you open a dropdown list for selecting a tracking device in Aximmetry (for example, in a camera compound), all OptiTrack rigid bodies should be listed within 1–2 seconds, even if you have not mapped any of them as shown above.
If the device does not appear or does not work properly, try disabling the Windows Firewall.
Separate Machines
If Motive and Aximmetry are running on different machines:
In the Startup Configuration window, click on Manage Devices...
NOTE: The Manage Devices... option is also available at any time through the Edit menu while Aximmetry Composer is running.
Select OptiTrack under the Camera Tracking category:
Select the network adapter through which you can communicate with the other PC on your local network.
Then specify the IP of the other PC (Server IP).
Again, if it does not work, try to switch off the Firewall on both PCs.
After configuring the above, all OptiTrack rigid bodies should be listed within 1–2 seconds in the Camera Tracking tab of the Available Input Devices, or any relevant dropdown list for selecting a tracking device in Aximmetry.
