Introduction
Fab is Epic’s online marketplace for models, textures, animations, VFX, scenes, plugins, and more. It’s a fast and convenient way to source assets that you can even drop directly into Unreal Engine for Aximmetry.
There are three common types of Fab products:
- Assets:
These can be opened directly in the running Unreal Editor for Aximmetry. To do this, you must first install the standard Unreal Engine version that matches your Aximmetry version. After that, install the Fab Launcher plugin. More on this below. - Whole Projects:
Export the project to the Unreal Engine version that matches your Aximmetry version. When opening it with Unreal Editor for Aximmetry, use the Convert in-place option. This process does not require a standard Unreal Engine installation or any plugins. - Unreal Engine Plugins:
These require you to first install the standard Unreal Engine version that matches your Aximmetry version. Install the plugin into the standard engine first, then copy the plugin into the MarketPlace folder of Unreal Editor for Aximmetry according to the plugin installation documentation.
Fab Launcher Plugin
Install the Epic Games Launcher and then the standard Unreal Engine by following the instructions here.
It's crucial to match the Unreal Engine version with your Unreal Editor for Aximmetry's version. To determine the necessary version, open the Unreal Editor for Aximmetry and select Help > About Unreal Editor. Focus on the first two segments of the version number (e.g., 5.3).
NOTE: To conserve disk space, when installing the Unreal Engine (Step 3), click Options and disable all install options, including target platforms.
Open the Epic Games Launcher, click on the Fab tab, then click the gear (settings) icon:
Then, in the subsequent window, ensure the Fab Launcher Plugin is installed:
NOTE: If you do not see "Unreal Engine" as an Export Target option, you have not yet installed the standard Unreal Engine.
If the Fab Launcher Plugin was installed previously, but to a different version of Unreal Engine, go to the Unreal Engine tab in the Epic Games Launcher, then to Library.
Scroll down to the Fab Library, find Fab UE Plugin, and click Install to Engine, then proceed to select the correct Unreal Engine version:
Next, copy the plugin into the Marketplace folder of Unreal Editor for Aximmetry according to the plugin installation documentation.
Then, start Unreal Editor for Aximmetry, go to Edit > Plugins, and ensure that the FabLauncher plugin is enabled:
Exporting Fab Asset
Make sure Unreal Editor for Aximmetry is running with a project open.
In the Epic Games Launcher, go to the Fab tab, select the asset you want to import, and after downloading it, click Export:
The asset will automatically be placed under the Fab folder in the opened project's Content folder.
You can verify this in the Content Browser panel of the running Unreal Editor for Aximmetry:
